When you sell your primary residence, you can make up to $250,000 in profit if you're a single owner, twice that if you're married, and not owe any capital gains taxes. "Most people are not going to have a tax obligation unless their gain is huge," says Bob Trinz, a senior tax analyst at RIA, which provides tax information and software to tax professionals. Some sellers are surprised by this break, especially if they've been in their homes for a while....

The Wisconsin Realtors Association says the median resale home price is 166-thousand dollars in the third quarter. That's unchanged from a year ago. Prices nationally declined about one percent to nearly 225-thousand dollars. The number of homes sold in Wisconsin during the quarter dropped seven and a-half percent to about 29 and a-half thousand. Across the U-S, that decline was nearly 13 percent. Marquette University economist David Clark says Wisconsin fared better than the nation because buyers may be more cautious. Clark expects Wisconsin housing prices to begin climbing again next year, maybe two to four percent. ___ Information from: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, http://www.jsonline.com Copyright 2006 Associated Press....
